My Facebook page reminded me this morning that six years ago, I attended a cupcake decorating workshop with a friend. Looking at these rather impressive cupcakes, I'm trying to recall a time, since this workshop, that I've...
I made my own bread! I'm so chuffed, it's actually edible too!! On paper the act of making a small white tin loaf appears straight forward...
A year ago this week we picked up our puppy Maisie! Having never owned a dog, I had no clue what to expect. That journey home, the first few nights comforting her, followed by...
You know the Christmas song, 'Rudolph the red nose reindeer'? (I’ll wait why you sing the lyrics in your head… “Rudolph the red nose reindeer. Had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw it… etc.”
Well, as a child... As a child, the Moomins freaked me out. I have no idea why, and have no intention of watching a replay to find out. What's interesting is...
"They're not allowed to do that!" was the distraught shout from my 6-year-old son, as the driver in front of us pulled away from the temporary traffic lights while they were still on red.
When you're six, right and wrong seems very black and white, or in this case... My husband has recently taken up reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and judging by his recent text messages, he seems to have adopted much of the long-lost vocabulary. References to...
“What should future L&D professionals be working towards?”
This was the question I recently asked at the event I hosted for the CIPD entitled, ‘It wasn’t raining when I left – The Future of L&D.’ With much talk in the industry focusing on ‘how we learn,’ rather than ‘what we learn’, we explored... Recently I found my husband had left his favourite joke on the white board in my office. Don't ask me to explain it, I really don't have a clue. We think quite differently to each other, yet...
"Help! It's my goldfish, he's ill!” was the cry I heard as I turned around to see a customer rushing passed me with an outstretched saucepan full of water, and presumably a goldfish!
I've seen a host of perfectly carved pumpkins appear recently on social media, and I'm happy for these people, I truly am. They have creativity, patience and time to spare. I suspect what they didn't have...
I recently hosted a talk for the CQI, around personality preferences. Not being a member of the CQI myself, I had done my homework and attended a previous event to get the lay of the land. I had prepared my presentation with the audience in mind, and contacted the host to confirm requirements at the venue. All was good, or so I thought!
I recently had the privilege of conducting my best friend's wedding renewal. It was the most wonderful day, with every detail having been lovingly arranged by the bride and her maid of honour. To say I felt a sense of pressure (only set by myself) to get things right, was an understatement, but one I was up to the challenge of, and looking forward to.
Like so many parents around the country at the moment, I'm ‘preparing for school’. Apparently, part of these preparations involves...
It occurs to me that developing as Trainers, and afternoon teas, share more in common than I first pointed out in my recent article, 'Is your Training Team offering a Cream Tea service?'
Tis the season of picnics, cream teas and the occasional downpour of torrential rain!!
I can still recall the very first cream tea I ordered... What happens when you remove the expected?
I've observed many Trainers rely on traditional props to 'create' a learning environment. Industry standards are flipcharts, PowerPoints and Post-it notes, often leaving walls looking more like an art gallery than a meeting room. There's nothing wrong with this as such... Every time I walk past this shop, (note, I walk past – not in!) I shudder. I have actually been in once, in the hope of finding out that these ‘DON’T’ posters on the door have just been forgotten about and that things inside are in fact friendly and welcoming, but no. Hanging from the ceiling were...
So, the g'zillion poppy seeds I scattered around the garden several years ago, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, have only just decided to grow! (Three years later!)
What does a Trainer do exactly?
Whether offered as a challenge, or a genuine inquiry, this questions can be answered in so many different ways. Yesterday, while in a cafe, the view inspired one possible explanation... "Trainer's open windows so people can get a clearer view of the horizon." (I'm sure there's plenty of follow up questions to this too, such as; "Why is the window so unclear to start with?" or "Whose responsibility is it to clean the window?" And for those who think more logically, 'Why are heck are we talking about windows?") I was recently given a large world globe. (I love the visual aspect of maps, so it was a well-received gift). It sits in the study and is quite eye catching, however…
We have a beautiful five-month-old puppy. As any new dog owner will vouch, when you have a puppy, you seem to spend a small fortune on trying out new products! Such as the retractable lead we bought to give her more freedom. These leads have a switch which releases and break the line. Why am I telling you this? ...
Last week we went away on a short break to the coast. It is of course obligatory to have fish and chips while on holiday on the cold and blustery coast line in England, and so we found a lovely takeaway/café and ordered a bunch of food, (because this is what you also do when you’re on holiday!) That's when I spotted it, this poster, with this heading...
Last week I won a book! (Thanks #All Star Marketing Club.) I hadn't come across the title (Secrets of the Millionaires Mind) or the author (T. Harv Eker) before, so I wasn't too sure what to expect. I'm not particularly driven by money, so the title didn't fill me with much enthusiasm, but as I took a peek inside and turned to the introduction page, I found this chapter heading...
Today my personal Facebook page reminded me about an incident that happen four years ago. My mum ventured into her first ever Starbucks store. Nothing particularly interesting about that, however...
