Today, at breakfast, my son decided to be a pirate, well, why wouldn't you? I watched as he proceeded to draw his treasure map. He started with a treasure chest and a huge X to mark the spot, then he drew the outline of the island with a Galleon moored in the bay. Only then did he draw a few landmarks; a palm tree, ship wreck, quick sand, mountains and sharks, then finally he added the dotted line... 'the path to take'.
All this creativity over a bowl of cereal reminded me that sometimes we get hornswoggled (beware... more piratey phrases to come!) into using overly complicated models when it comes to setting goals. So next time you’re doing a spot of goal setting, why not start by asking yourself these piratey questions?
