Does Lego 'belong' in your induction?

During a recent trip to Legoland, I found a company timeline.  This reminded me of how I'd used company history in 2 of my previous L&D roles, and also why...

 I believe it’s an important topic to include in inductions?

• One of my many roles at B&Q was Induction Trainer.  We created timelines of company facts and dates. It was fun, but also interesting and relevant.
• As L&D Manager for Berry Bros & Rudd, our Corporate Induction Day AND Refresher Workshops focused on the growth of the company, the families within it, and the politics and culture that impacted on it.   

 
These companies understood the importance of 'belonging', and how this affects an employee’s relationship with the company. 
 
So, how do you create ‘belonging’ in an induction?  

1. Enable employees to feel they’ve made the right choice in joining the company
2. Give them enough information on the company and their job, to allow them to effectively ‘start’
3. Enable them to know who/where to ask for information
