When I was six, I asked my Dad if I could go ‘Trick or Treating’. His answer? ‘No, it’s begging!’ (Well it was the seventies and Halloween wasn’t really a thing then.) I never asked again. Fast forward many years to my own Son asking me the same question. My instinctive answer?... You guessed it, ‘No, it’s begging!’ Before the words had even left my mouth I realised I didn’t really believe this. I find it interesting that this one interaction with my Dad, all those years ago had influenced my response so many years later.
To overcome this inherited reaction, my Son and I now create little thank you notes, to hand over to anyone generous enough to; a) open their door and b) give him sweets. (Last year it was Zombie drawings! This year pumpkin pictures!) Bringing this back to business… Line Managers will often find they manage in a way they themselves have been managed in the past. This could be a good thing, but quite often it is not. Unless a Manager has access to development they might just be repeating the past too. So, if you’re looking to develop your Line Managers, give me a shout and let’s turn them into Zombies and pumpkins…. well, you get what I mean! www.curiouslighthouse.co.uk Comments are closed.
